Khagrachari — Christian communities in Khagrachari held a Christmas procession on Monday, marking the festive season ahead of Christmas Day with a public rally and cultural celebration.

 

Photographs from the event show participants marching along the town’s main roads carrying banners reading “Shubho Borodin 2025” (Merry Christmas 2025), along with religious symbols and festive decorations. Men, women, children, and teenagers were seen taking part, many dressed in traditional Indigenous attire, while others wore Santa Claus caps and festive clothing.

 

According to local media reports, the procession began at Chengi Square in the district headquarters and concluded at the Khagrachari Government High School grounds after moving through key streets of the town. The march proceeded in an orderly manner, occupying one side of the road while regular traffic continued on the other.

 

A large banner at the front of the procession identified the event as a Christmas celebration rally organised by the Christmas Celebration Council. The banner also displayed Christian symbols and Nativity imagery, indicating the religious and cultural nature of the programme.

 

Local reports said the procession was led by Ronik Tripura, chairman of the Christmas Celebration Council, and was attended by Dhaneshwar Tripura, a member of the Khagrachari District Council, along with pastors and leaders from local Christian organisations.

 

Following the procession, a brief rally was held at the concluding venue. Speakers highlighted religious messages associated with Christmas, focusing on peace, harmony, and goodwill, according to reports.

 

Christians form a relatively small minority in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, and community leaders have in recent years expressed concern about the broader national climate and the rise of hardline religious rhetoric. Despite these concerns, this year’s Christmas procession in Khagrachari was held peacefully, with no reported disruptions or security incidents.

 

Christmas is observed annually by Christian communities across the Chittagong Hill Tracts, where public processions and cultural programmes are commonly organised in the days leading up to December 25.
