Bangladesh, Khagrachhari, Ramgarh | February 14: A 55-year-old man was allegedly beaten and robbed while returning home after buying medicine in Ramgarh on Saturday morning.

 

The victim, Himel Chakma, is from Nangel Para village in Ramgarh upazila. He is the son of Nirmal Chakma and Pulbi Chakma. He currently serves as the president of the Nangel Para Dharma Chitti Aranya Buddhist Vihara management committee.

 

According to family members and local sources, Himel Chakma had been ill for several days. On Saturday morning, he went to Ramgarh market to buy medicine for treatment. While returning home, he was reportedly chased near a palm oil plantation in the Lalchhari border area.

 

The family alleges that a group of settler Bengalis attacked him. They claim he was beaten severely and lost consciousness. The attackers allegedly left him unconscious at the scene.

 

According to relatives, he regained consciousness around 3:00 pm and managed to return home on his own. The family further alleges that the attackers took his shirt, pants, and shoes.

 

Items reported stolen include 2,000 taka in cash, a mobile phone with 1,500 taka in a bKash account, a button phone, his National ID card, the official seal of the Buddhist vihara, a Rupali Bank cheque book, and the medicine he had purchased.

 

As of the latest update, arrangements were being made to take him to the hospital for treatment due to serious injuries.

 

The incident has created fear and anger in the area. Police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the matter.
